Employees say Intuitive, Boston Scientific, J&J, Medtronic are among the best places to work in 2022

Intuitive Surgical, Boston Scientific, Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic were recently named by Glassdoor as Best Places to Work in 2022 based on employee reviews.

Each year, Glassdoor uses feedback that employees have shared on the website over the past 12 months to compile a list of the best places to work for the upcoming year. Employee reviews provide Glassdoor with insights into job and workplace attributes, as well as qualitative feedback about why their employer provides the best place to work and what needs improvement.

Intuitive Surgical ranked 29 out of 100 on the Glassdoor list. The Sunnyvale, California-based company was listed at 41 for the previous year. It received a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars over the last year. Some of its top reviews mention a “great work/life balance” with competitive salaries, benefits and stock options. The cons outlined suggest that Intuitive has a “very fast-paced environment [with] high-performance expectations.”

Intuitive employed 8,081 people in 2020 and generated $4.3 billion in revenue, or $611,316 per employee.

Boston Scientific ranked at No. 52 of the 100 best places to work this year. The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company did not make the cut in 2021 or 2020. It received a 4.3-star rating on its Glassdoor page. Some of its highlighted pros include “great work/life balance with the opportunity to grow,” but its top con is that the night shift can make it difficult to balance work and life.

Boston Scientific employed 36,000 people in 2020 and reported $10.7 billion in sales, or $298,194 per employee.

Johnson & Johnson was ranked at No. 75 on Glassdoor’s list, down from No. 24 last year. The New Brunswick, New Jersey-based company had a 4.3-star rating for the last year. Its employees say that the company fosters a friendly work environment and has “great benefits,” but the large size of the company can pose a challenge.

Johnson & Johnson’s medical device segment logged $22.9 billion in sales in 2020. It does not report medtech employee counts in its annual report.

Fridley, Minnesota-based Medtronic ranked No. 83 on Glassdoor’s 100 best places to work list for the upcoming year. It did not make the cut in 2021 or 2020. Medtronic received a 4.2-star rating. Some of its highlighted pros of working with the company include good benefits, but some employees say working at Medtronic — the largest medical device company in the world — involves “typical bureaucracy.”

Medtronic employed more than 90,000 people in 2021 and made $28.9 million in sales, or $321,256 per employee.
