Canon Medical is releasing a new high-end digital PET/CT scanner at the upcoming RSNA conference in Chicago. The Cartesion Prime Digital PET/CT combines Canon’s Aquilion Prime SP CT scanner and the SiPM (silicon photomultiplier) PET detector, providing high resolution imaging and easy operator control, according to the company.
So far, it is known that the device has an impressively fast time-of-flight resolution of less than 280 picoseconds, a 27 cm axial field of view, and one-to-one SiPM to crystal coupling of the PET detector. The system is also air cooled rather than relying on water, which may help to reduce maintenance costs.
More information will hopefully be available at RSNA where radiology-related companies tend to release and show off their finest wares.
“With our customers’ needs in mind, we developed the Cartesion Prime Digital PET/CT with advanced features that can help clinicians chart the right course for their patients’ care,” said Tim Nicholson, managing director, Molecular Imaging Business Unit, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc., in a press release. “This advanced technology has led to image quality improvements, while optimizing dose efficiency to reduce patient risk and speeding up acquisition time for improved throughput. These innovations are part of Canon Medical’s commitment to continually provide meaningful improvement for today’s care, and for the future.”
