Johnson & Johnson’s (NYSE:JNJDePuy Synthes announced that it won CE Mark approval for its Bi-Mentum dual mobility system for people with a higher risk of dislocation.
Bi-Mentum is designed with a standard femoral head articulating within a large polyethylene liner that swivels within a metal shell, reducing the risk of dislocation, which can impact patient satisfaction and result in revision costs later.
The system is intended to integrate with all DePuy Synthes hip stems with highly polished necks, including the Corail hip system that has more than 2.5 million implantations to date.
“With an increasing number of patients undergoing hip replacement surgery, surgeons need to address a broader range of surgical needs to help their patients stay active and get on with their lives,” DePuy Synthes VP and global platform leader for hips Aaron Villaruz said in a news release. “Securing the CE Mark on Bi-Mentum enables us to better serve our customers and patients across Europe with a solution that is designed to make a continued difference in hip replacement.”
Bi-Mentum is currently commercially available in the U.S. and DePuy Synthes plans to make it available in select European markets next month, according to the news release.
