Caretaker Medical announced that it received Health Canada emergency authorization for its Caretaker wearable patient monitor.
Charlottesville, Va.-based Caretaker’s monitor uses a finger sensor to remotely measure continuous blood pressure and multiple vital signs, according to a news release.
Health Canada’s clearance under its COVID-19 medical device authorization process allows Caretaker to immediately begin sales in Canada so clinicians can monitor quarantine patients without entering the room, augmenting clinical resources, reducing the use of PPE and enabling safe, distanced monitoring.
Among the vital signs measured by Caretaker’s wireless monitor are blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, SpO2 and more across the full continuum of care. The system is FDA-cleared and has CE Mark approval in Europe.
“Together with our distribution partner, MedTach, we are excited to bring Caretaker into the Canadian clinical market, to address the need for continuous, ICU-quality wireless patient monitoring remotely while maximizing safety of both patient and clinician,” Caretaker Medical president & CEO Jeff Pompeo said in the release.
