AVALA, the only hospital in Louisiana offering robotic surgery for total hip, total knee, partial knee, and spine surgeries, announces it has exceeded 2,000 robotic-assisted surgeries in under four years of introducing this surgical technology to the region.
In 2018, AVALA purchased three surgical robots – two Stryker Mako robots for total hip, total knee, and partial knee procedures, and one Globus Excelsius GPS robot for spine procedures. In 2020, AVALA added a third Stryker Mako robot to its collection of innovative technology making the organization one of only twelve hospitals in the world with three Stryker Mako robots.
“With our cutting-edge robotic technology and expertly trained physicians, we are able to provide patients with a customized surgical experience based on their individual anatomy,” said Samer Shamieh M.D., AVALA Medical Director. “It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across our orthopedic and spine service lines.”
AVALA’s experienced orthopedic and spine surgeons have undergone specialized medical training in these robotic technologies to provide patients with shorter, minimally invasive procedures and faster recovery times.
Having this much experience and technology under one roof enables AVALA to provide patients with better outcomes and overall better patient experiences.
