Both and Zoll Medical, an Asahi Kasei (TYO:3407) subsidiary, and Becton Dickinson (NYSE:BDX) picked up contracts from the U.S. Defense Dept. within the last week.
On September 20, Zoll was awarded a maximum of more than $8.4 million for its dual-aeromedical certified defibrillators and accessories. The one-year base contract has four one-year options and is slated for a September 18, 2020 performance completion date.
Zoll’s defibrillators and accessories are slated to be used by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and the Department of Health Affairs.
Five days later, Zoll was awarded another contract, this time worth close to $8.8 million, for airworthy suction apparatuses.
The one-year contract also has four one-year option periods, as well as a September 24, 2020 performance completion date. The U.S. Dept. of Defense listed the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and federal civilian agencies as using customers.
Last month, Chelmsford, Mass.-based Zoll had a federal judge deny its motion to toss out a lawsuit filed by the family of a woman who attribute her death to a faulty Zoll LifeVest wearable defibrillator. Later that month, the company closed its deal to acquire Cardiac Science and its portfolio of automated external defibrillators for an undisclosed amount.
On September 25, the U.S. Defense Dept. awarded nearly $23.7 million to Becton Dickinson for its medical surgical products. The contract has a one-year base with nine one-year option periods.
Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based Becton Dickinson’s contract is the 14th awarded in a standing solicitation (SPM2D0-12-R-0004). The contract has a performance completion date set for September 28, 2020.
The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and federal civilian agencies are all listed as using customers.
