Coala Life today said it expanded its monitoring capabilities to monitor COVID-19 patients from home.
The smartphone-powered ECG Coala Heart Monitor can detect nine common heart arrhythmias and normal sinus rhythm. The expanded capabilities are a result of the FDA’s new emergency guidance to help battle the coronavirus.
“The ability with Coala to monitor patients remotely and obtain real-time ECG analysis of these most common arrhythmias offers progress in the care of patients who are at increased risk of various arrhythmias, some of which are life-threatening. Results are presented on the patient’s smartphone and to the connected healthcare provider in the Coala Care portal,” Jerome Dwyer, cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the St. Louis Cardiology Center, said in a news release.
The Coala Heart Monitor is FDA-cleared and is a CE Class IIa medical device system that is designed for remote cardiacs monitoring. It uses advanced algorithms to detect arrhythmias as atrial fibrillation. It recently expanded to allow for remote respiratory monitoring using an integrated stethoscope.
Coala Life’s heart monitor will be available immediately to detect and show ECG results from common arrhythmias like AV Block II, tachycardia, multiple premature atrial contractions (PACs) and multiple premature ventricular contractions.
