Heraeus Medical Components announced today that it has acquired Dresden, Germany-based Contract Medical International (CMI) — its fourth acquisition in 2 years.
CMI focuses on complex delivery systems for minimally-invasive medical devices, providing contract design, development, manufacturing and global regulatory services for medical device OEMs. It has advanced capabilities in design specification for balloons, stents, and coiled or braided shaft technologies for sheaths and catheters, manufacturing its products in the Czech Republic.
Heraeus said the acquisition extends its interventional device capabilities through CMI’s technology and competence in the design, development and integration of minimally-invasive medical device systems. CMI also adds to Heraeus’ existing interventional device production capacity and enhances support to partners seeking regulatory services for global device registration.
“Joining Heraeus enables us to better serve customers by combining our deep knowledge in advanced minimally-invasive devices with Heraeus’ global manufacturing scale,” said CMI managing director Martin Schachenmayr in a news release. “Both organizations have a shared passion for supporting customers in end-to-end product development and manufacturing, so we are eager to unlock our joint potential.”
“Our service offering is reflective of our customer’s needs to increasingly outsource development, production and regulatory services,” added Nicolas Guggenheim, president of Heraeus Medical Components. “This acquisition, our fourth in just over 2 years, is part of an ongoing expansion of capabilities and competences within growing interventional device markets. CMI is a European leader in development services with top talent and capabilities that will complement our offering for the benefit of our customers”.
