NOUS Imaging announced that it picked up $6.6 million in venture capital and government research investments for its software-based biofeedback solution.
The St. Louis, Mo.–based company is developing the Framewise integrated real-time MRI monitoring (FIRMM) system for acquiring better brain MR exams. FIRMM initially only worked with Siemens MR scanners, but NOUS Imaging said it recently released an updated research version of the platform that is compatible with GE MR machines.
“We hope that with the addition of GE capability we can add to our existing number of FIRMM users,” NOUS Imaging director of engineering Todd Deckard said in a news release. “This new software update coupled with the fact that we are the only camera-less motion monitoring technology provides the necessary foundation to grow our footprint in the industry.”
The original research version of the software has been used as part of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study, the largest long-term study of brain development in the U.S. NOUS Imaging’s platform is used across more than 55 academic brain imaging centers as well, the company said.
NOUS Imaging’s latest funding round included investments from the Small Business Innovation Research program at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Mental Health.
“The software aims to eliminate patient safety risks and save billions of dollars in wasted healthcare costs,” added NOUS Imaging co-founder Dr. Nico Dosenbach.
