OrthoPediatrics (NSDQ:KIDS) announced the U.S. launch of its PediFoot deformity correction system for feet after it won FDA 510(k) clearance months ago.
The Warsaw, Ind.–based company picked up FDA approval in August for the PediFoot, which it said is the first pediatric-specific system for treating foot deformities.
PediFoot utilizes plates and screws that are smaller than those used in other devices in the OrthoPediatrics portfolio. The company said the small plates and screws enable greater effectiveness in addressing cavus foot, flatfoot, clubfoot and hallux valgus foot deformities.
The system is designed to center around lateral column lengthening, calcaneal slide osteotomies, opening and closing wedge osteotomies and arthrodesis procedures. It includes OrthoPediatrics’ StarLoc angle locking screw technology to help allow anatomic movement of bones during the correction process. The PediPedal non-slip platforms for intraoperative simulated weight-bearing x-rays are also included.

“We are excited to commence the domestic launch of our PediFoot Deformity Correction System,” OrthoPediatrics VP of trauma & deformity correction Joe Hauser said in a news release. “Designed with a team of eminent pediatric orthopedic surgeons, this system addresses four of the most common pediatric foot deformities. With a heightened focus on instrumentation and intra-operative ease, the entire system is contained in one tray with innovative instrumentation that aids in reproducible correction and optimizes time in the operating room. This is the first of many launches to address pediatric foot and ankle procedures.”
