Philips launches thrombectomy system

Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG) announced today that it launched its Quicklear mechanical thrombectomy system in the U.S. after receiving FDA clearance.
QuickClear is a compact, single-use system designed to provide an all-in-one aspiration pump and catheter for removing blood clots from the vessels of the peripheral arterial and venous systems. It is now available for sale in the U.S., having garnered FDA 510(k) clearance.
Amsterdam-based Philips’ device can be placed on the table next to the patient for convenience because of its small size. By touching a button, the system is up and running at maximum aspiration power within seconds. Its range of catheters includes a large 10F aspiration catheter and Philips said in a news release that the system offers physicians more control and faster procedure times.
“This novel thrombectomy system is the latest addition to Philips’ market-leading portfolio for the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases,” Philips senior VP & GM of image-guided therapy devices Chris Landon said in the release. “Its intuitive design simplifies the entire thrombectomy procedure workflow.
“By taking away the high initial capital expenditure costs associated with traditional mechanical thrombectomy systems, QuickClear can help bring cost-effective solutions to both the hospital and outpatient care settings.”
