Procept BioRobotics recently announced that Reza Zadno, former CEO of ophthalmology tech company Avedro, has taken over the corner office at Procept.
Zadno has more than three decades of leadership in the medical device industry, with a track record of successfully leading young companies to acquisitions. The latest was Avedro, which Glaukos (NYSE:GKOS) acquired for an undisclosed amount in November 2019.
Officials at Redwood City, Calif.–based Procept have been touting a host of studies that the company says demonstrates the durability, safety and efficacy of its Aquabeam robotic system and Aquablation therapy, which uses a robotically controlled waterjet for heat-free prostate tissue ablation.
Dr. Rodney Perkins, Procept BioRobotics’s co-founder and board chair, praised Zadno’s business and technical acumen — needed skills as Procept engages in rapid expansion. “Procept’s technology of rapid, precise image-guided tissue removal represents the next generation of surgical robotics, and Reza can lead us into this new era of surgery,” Perkins said in a Feb. 6 news release.
Surgical robotics has become a hot area in the medical device industry.
“Technology has advanced significantly since the development of the earliest robotic platforms used in medicine. Procept BioRobotics is a unique company in the robotics space that has the ability to augment surgical technique utilizing next-generation robotic technology,” said Dr. Frederic Moll, co-founder of Intuitive Surgical and Auris Health and member of Procept’s board.
